Welcome to Blue-Gem
Ragdoll & Maine Coon cat breeder with over 30 years of experience located in Savannah, GA. My breed specialization is in Ragdolls for their puppy cat temperaments with blue eyes and Maine Coons for their large size and feral aesthetics. My primary goal is health and termperament, bred to the CFA and TICA standards, to which I am a registered cattery in both.
Starting in 1989 I bred award-winning English Mastiffs, which produced the top winning mastiff in the history of the breed, including a multiple breed & group wins at the Westminster dog show. Trained and worked with Therapy Dog International for many years. With my cats I managed a nonprofit, Kitty Angels, that facilitated therapy for the elderly, disabled, sick, and children. In 1993 I started breeding cats for show, families, and therapy work. I soon produced a regional winning champion cat in the Northeast region. I have also been featured on Animal Planet for my cat-breeding expertise. This year in 2023 I’m celebrating my 30th year in breeding cats.
What I value the most in my profession is the relationship established with the buyer, in which the focus is establishing a relationship and trust with each buyer that extends into a lifelong relationship. I take pride in the amount of care I put into every breeding. Every kitten is correctly cared for and evaluated for health and temperament to ensure each buyer has a kitten that can integrate into a family or exceed the requirements for therapeutic work.
When not breeding cats, I enjoy gardening, photography, spending time with family, and bird watching.
Hope you enjoy visiting my website.
Sincerely,
Mary Eagle Horse
Ragdolls
Anyone who has ever been lucky enough to be owned by a Ragdoll cat has come away singing the Ragdoll breed’s praises. They are called “Puppy Cats” for their dog-like temperament and size. Even die-hard dog partisans cannot help but be charmed by the Ragdoll’s affectionate temperament and vibrant blue eyes and are known for their “bunny” soft coat. For this reason, they make an excellent alternative for dog lovers who do not have the time or space.
Ragdolls are also larger than many other breeds of house cats, and their average weight ranges for females is 10 to 15 pounds and males 15 to 20 pounds. Ragdolls love their human family and get along well with children and other pets. They are intelligent, inquisitive, want to be with you, will follow you, and are easily trained to use a harness. They like to retrieve balls, and can be clicker trained to learn tricks, and unlike most cats, they seem to love water. Ragdolls tend to be more ground dwellers and are more laid back than a Maine Coon. They are easy to care for with low maintenance shedding coats.
Maine Coons
The Maine Coon is a large breed and is one of the oldest natural breeds in North America. The Maine Coon is a social cat, which could be why it has a reputation for being referred to as “the gentle giant.” They are predominantly known for their size and dense fur coat, which helps the large feline survive in the harsh climate of Maine. The Maine Coon has a “dog-like” characteristic similar to a Ragdoll cat. Maine Coons can also be trained to a harness. They are a playful breed and are known to love water. The average weight of a Maine Coon is 15 to 20 plus pounds. Though it is a rare color and trait, Maine coons are approved to be registered in the TICA cat association with blue eyes and polydactyl feet. Polydactyl means the kitten or cat has six toes. The blue-eyed, polydactyl Maine coon is something I specialize in. Another aspect they are known for is the long fluffy tail just like a Racoon.
